Xavier and Aranxa’s Quinta da Libelinha

What a pleasure to spend a day and night with Xavier and Aranxa, their adorable children Leo (2) and Ila (4) and Zeo, Or and Jimmy, their three volunteers.

Summary

  • A wonderful Montessori school is up and running on a terrace overlooking the valley.
  • In 10 months Xavier has created a great example of how to scale with permaculture – 4 hectares of garden, food forests, olives groves and syntropics.
  • Eco Restoration Internship – there is a great opportunity for interns to spend 3 to 6 months working with Xavier.
  • I am booked in for next Easter’s Consciousness Gathering for families! Details coming soon.

I arrived just after midday and settled in at the community kitchen and dining area to wait for their return from the market.

Upon their return, I learned the sad news that their 20 or so chickens had been killed that night with no sign as to how the fox had entered the coup. Of all the options, getting a dog to keep away the foxes seems the best. How sad for the little Leo who, at the age of 2, told me very eloquently and with a certain matter-of-fact maturity, of having to bin the carcasses….

Xavier and I cooked lunch and then the kids accompanied us on a 3 hour tour of the land and farm. Xavier is a rare visionary in that he has built in 10 months the foundations of a true community paradise.
